It has been a couple of years now since South Africa started facing issues of load shedding. Not only does it affect large and small businesses, students are affected as well.Across the country students are academically affected by load shedding, some end up not being able to study.

However, it is important that you learn how to manage your time wisely so that you are not affected when it is time for load shedding,it is of paramount importance that you manage your time wisely ,get to know the schedule for the entire week or month as well as the stages which load shedding is currently in.

Students who do not plan well end up being really affected by load shedding and fail to do their work in expected time. Each and every student has a different strategy to avoid being inconvenienced by load shedding and some call it the "load shedding survival tips".

Asanda Qwabe(22), a second year student in Information Technology at TUT, says that she plans accordingly, "I always check the load shedding timetable online to avoid any inconveniences, for instance if they say there is going to be load shedding at 20:00hrs until midnight, I make sure that i cook on time and work on my assignments before there is any power cut"

"Load shedding really affects us as students, I remember during my first year last year in time for exams there was load shedding almost everyday so I had to prioritize my time during the day, study more and play less and at the end,it paid off" ,says Rethabile Mguni(19) , a second year Analytical Chemistry student at UJ.

Floyd Mathebula(22) a 3rd year journalism student at TUT says that he advises students to use their time wisely, have good time management skills, which is one of the load shedding survival tips.
Some retails stores have gone an extra mile to provide the "load shedding survival kit" for citizens in times of load shedding.

Ensure that your cell phone is always fully charged when power is available, and get a power bank as back-up (remember to keep it charged). If you need to get some work done, charge your laptop battery too. Also remember to have temporary lighting such as a torch and candles.

MATRIC MEMORIES

Well known as matric and umalusi to others. Every year the Department of Education sets examinations  for those in matric or Grade12 to say. Matric is the final year in high school before one goes to a higher learning institution. Matric exams come with a lot of pressure and different people handle the pressure differently.
Since the introduction of the CAPS curriculum the class of 2019 has managed to produce the highest pass rate ever. However, things are kind of different now than before, I remember when my cousin completed her matric back then in 2013 they published names in newspapers unlike now which they only have candidate numbers on the newspapers

A second year journalism student Pabalelo Mathabatha(20) says that she was excited and scared at the same time about her results,’ I rarely slept that night, I was waiting to see how I performed, and because of the hard work I put in I passed’ She goes on to advice first year students to take their work seriously as no one will be following them around so that they do their work ‘here no one is going to follow you around about your assignments, they are your own responsibility, learn to balance between social and academic life’.
A 4th year education student Ayanda Zulu(23) says that she was neither happy nor excited about her matric results as the year had been rough on her, "I was shocked that I had actually made it, I did not expect such results and to the class of 2019 it is never too late to redo you grade, it all starts in the mind, to those coming to University learn to balance your leisure and study time accordingly”

Some people have it the hard way and some the easiest way, remember education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.

Going to university is taking a step closer to achieving your goals, being there won’t be a walk in the park, you need consistency, discipline and the purpose why you are there. Along the way you’ll face challenges to a point where you want to give up but remember “why you are doing this”

“Studying is important but so is letting go and letting loose, but only when it is done correctly” Ayanda
